Valentine’s Day isn’t only a holiday to be celebrated by humans – don’t forget to show your pet some extra love this Feb. 14! In case you’re lacking in the inspiration department when it comes to showering love on your pet this Valentine’s Day, we’ve come up with a few ideas for you below.
Treats
Dogtime says to start out with a pretty easy and simple option: give your pet a few extra treats this Valentine’s Day! Make sure you keep the treats to a healthy minimum, but give your pup a few extra biscuits to remind your pet that you love them.
Attention
Don’t just toss them a treat and walk away. This Valentine’s Day, spend a few extra minutes of time with your pet! Whether they love a head scratch, belly rub or game of fetch, take some extra time out of your day to remind them that you love them by paying them some extra attention.
Extra Exercise
If your pet loves to play outside or go for a walk, make Valentine’s Day a good excuse to get in some extra exercise. Maybe your pup really loves the dog park or playing in the yard, or maybe your cat loves to chase the red laser dot. Set aside some extra time this month to give your four-legged friend a bit of extra playtime and attention – good both for your heart and theirs!
Trip to the Pet Store
Another great way to show your pet some extra love this Valentine’s is to let them pick out a new toy at the pet store. Make sure the owners are okay with you bringing your pet inside – usually not a problem at many pet stores today – and then see what your pet can sniff out! Let them pick a squeak toy, catnip toy or play rope that they love and give them a unique opportunity to find their own new play item.
Adopt
Whether you’re adding a new pet to the family or thinking of adopting your first one, Valentine’s Day is a great day to adopt a new dog or cat. Head down to your local shelter and see who catches your eye and pulls on your heartstrings – it could be a Valentine’s Day match made in heaven!
